valentine t-shirt tutorial.

the only time of year i can get away with dressing our sweet boys in hearts is around valentine’s day.  this year i wanted to take full advantage {without going overboard} and settled on a simple line-drawn heart and arrow to paint on one of griffin’s onesies.  since getting over my fear that i might totally ruin a perfectly fine t-shirt, fabric ink has become one of my favorite crafting supplies.

to make the onesie, i gathered a few things:  two paint brushes {fine tip and really fine tip}, fabric paint {specifically, water-based screen printing paint}, heavy card stock {cardboard works too} + shirt to paint.

sketch your drawing on the card stock or cardboard or download my sketch here.  the drawing is small, but you can adjust the scale in your printer settings.

first, place your card stock or cardboard inside your t-shirt and position to your liking.  then start painting fallowing the outline of your template!

don’t nitpick over the little things….  you won’t even notice once the shirt is being worn.  also, be sure and read the instructions that come with your paint.  the one i used says to wait 24 hours to dry and then set with a warm iron before washing.

Another great way to embellish onesies is to use rubber or foam stamps…then add your own pizzazz! I’ve done that before with fabric paint and it comes out so cute. I used potatoes too. Happy Heart Day!
