holiday dapper (kids trending)

there is a delicate balance between wanting your family to look cute (aka, not homeless) on a regular basis and not going broke.  it gets especially tricky around the holidays with 100 other things to spend money on and just as many events and outings to attend.

most years for the kids holiday attire, i wait until the last minute and try to piece clearance items together.  this rarely works out well.  so, this year i’ve decided to buy each of the kids one versatile item that can be styled different ways with clothing they already have in their closet….  and maybe an accessory or two.

NEW PURCHASES: gray (dapper) cardi from the gap $30, & cute socks from old navy $13.

NO. 1 —> perfect for THANKSGIVING: cardi, graphic or patterned t, rolled jeans, leather high tops, fun winter hat.

NO. 2 —> christmas card PICTURES: cardi, white t, same jeans, tennies, cute socks, scarf.

NO. 3 —> CHRISTMAS eve/day: cardi, plaid button up, red jeans (similar), leather high tops, & a tie would be a cute addition!

PURCHASED: a-line twill dress in a tribal pattern from the gap for $30, & metallic oxfords from old navy $13

NO. 1 —> perfect for THANKSGIVING: dress, layered with a skirt, boots (from the boys section at target).

NO. 2 —> christmas card PICTURES: dress, orange cardi (h&m), clogs (hand-me-downs), tights. (slightly undecided on this look for pictures, but it will work for something!)

NO. 3 —> CHRISTMAS day/evedress, faux fur vest, leg warmers, sparkly shoes.

2 down, 2 to go; but it feels good to scratch some shopping off my holiday to do list!

how do you keep your family looking cute while stretching your budget?  we’d love to hear in the comments!

also, if you like this post, here is a tweetable.

I love hitting up those mega consignment sales. In Texas they are usually called Baby Daze and held at your local Methodists churches twice a year. Then there is always JBF ( Just Between Friends), these are giant Costco warehouse size consignment sales, all things baby to 14 yrs. Toys, baby gear, clothes, books, puzzles, toys, feeding, shoes, costumes… Anyway I hit these up twice a year and stock up for the season. The brands are phenomenal and the prices are unbeatable, mostly because they are closely inspected before they are even dropped off for consignment. Then the bonus is on the last day (they usually last 3), everything is half off. Hello, major savings!!! I love it.
